Lori and Thomas Koch says it was insulting to see a man faking sign language — it is as if deaf people didn't matter, they said.
They uploaded the clip to YouTube after hearing claims the sign language interpreter at the Nelson Mandela memorial was a fraud.

The Tampa Bay, Fla., parents say their 5-year-old did a better job at her school Christmas show than the interpreter at Nelson Mandela's memorial service — who they said was obviously making it up.

"My 5-year-old signed even better for her deaf parents in an xmas show," Lori Koch tweeted to CNN's Piers Morgan - with a link to the clip.

Claire Koch, 5, is a heart-warming example of the way sign language can break down barriers.
Speaking about the Mandela memorial, Koch told Fox 13: "It became obvious he was making things up. He was repeating the same hand movements so it was obvious he was a fake."

"It was just totally deflating for deaf people, like saying deaf people are not important. This is a famous man who did so much for many people," added her husband Thomas.
